Your Chromebook automatically checks for updates each time it turns on and connects to a network.
Then it downloads the updates in the background when it’s connected to Wi-Fi.
This way, you always have the latest version of the operating system.
Install available updates
Your Chromebook lets you know if an update is ready. In the status area where your account picture appears, you’ll see the system update icon .
To install the update, click Update > Restart to update.
Check for updates
To check for available updates:
- Click the status area, where your account picture appears.
- Click Settings > About Chrome OS.
- In the “About” window that appears, click Check for and apply updates.
Once you’ve installed any available updates, you can check the “About” window to confirm that your Chromebook is up to date.
What information goes to Google when you update
When your Chromebook checks for updates, it sends information like version number and language, to Google servers. This information isn’t associated with you or your Google Account.
